One Seed ✿ Route 29 ✿ Video

[The screen fizzles into a view of the clear sky, before wobbling down to show the uncertain face of a brown-haired woman. The realization that she's finally turned on the gear makes her start, before she manages a polite smile.]

Excuse me- I'm sorry to broadcast like this, when I won't know anyone who answers- At least, I assume not... But I'm uncertain how I came here.

The books I have explain what I'm expected to do very well, but I'm afraid I have my own responsibilities to see to. I just arrived back home, before I was, pulled here...

[She looks off to the side, though whether she's focusing on the buildings of New Bark Town or the surrounding forest is hard to say.]

It's too bad I didn't find this place, when I was out on my journey... The land seems very fertile. And blooms such curious creatures.

[That brings on a brief show of cheer among her worrying, focused down at something at her feet. There's the unmistakable call of a Pokémon- And the call shorts out.]

[Ken has been feeling kind of broody lately - he can't find his erstwhile travel partner anywhere, but all her Pokémon found him. Could she really have gone home without him noticing, because he's been so wrapped up in his own goals and his friends from home? Guilt tugs at him.

So when he sees a newcomer - well. Nostalgia trip. (Odd that he can have one, but he's been here longer than he thought...)]

Concern's natural, so I can't tell you not to worry. We all have things we need to do.

But time flows differently between worlds. You'll return to the moment you left.

[Please excuse the delay, as Anissa stares not only because of Ken's claim, but at getting such a strange answer from such a young man.]

Oh my... I've never heard of a land like this before... The closest we came to such magic was the crops failing, or the fires refusing to burn...

[Ken nods. He had an advantage coming into this situation: world-hopping isn't anything new.]

The time shift isn't - uncommon. But most people can't access other worlds, so....

Anyway, the important thing's to focus on the present, here.

I suppose that's reasonable... [If still strange.

And it mirrors her practical impression of the land, too, but still, a couple seconds of glancing down at her Budew, and she's looking up curiously again.]

Do you know if we can take anything we find here home with us?

[That catches him by surprise.]

--Sorry. I don't. But...

[He puts a hand to his chin, thinking hard. Between the real and digital worlds, it's certainly possible; items pass back and forth all the time. But when someone's sent home here, their Pokémon remain...]

What did you want to bring?

I was thinking, if I can find things to grow and learn how to raise them, I could take back seeds! Then I could grow plants my home's never seen, and spread them through our family shop. And create new medicines!

[She glances down at her walking bud, too- But no. It's one thing to grow new species of plants. Her world would just follow her in seeing them as new hybrids or something. But Pokémon?

And her Budew probably wouldn't be happy in her land... And she couldn't imagine dragging her out of this sunny, fertile world. What if it made her wilt?!]

Then I can't speak to the possibility. Keep them on you, though, and maybe...

[He shrugs, blinking.]

It's an interesting idea.

That would be the way to manage it, wouldn't it...

[Eventually her muse breaks up, and she smiles with a "back to the point" shift.]

Either way! I can learn from raising the plants of this world, and perhaps even practice sales a little!

[Ken smiles.]

Ah - yeah....there's much to learn.

That Pokémon, though...it isn't all plant.

[Just. Mostly? Partially? Either way, he doubts you'll treat it poorly.]

I would think not - another land or not, no plant could move or speak in this way.

I assumed, she's a very smart creature, mimicking a plant?

[Yes/No?]

[How to explain this. But he didn't contact a newcomer for nothing - he wants to help!]

It's more - she's a creature, but she's also a plant. A plant that's gained sentience, like you or myself.

If possible, think of and treat her as both.

I can do that- I suppose. I'm certainly used to looking after plants. But, for the other half...

It's clear you already care for your Pokémon. That's the most important step.

Very much. But she's pretty easy to like. I just hope I can learn to understand her, like she already does me...

It's - an adjustment. But she'll help you. As will others....

Johto's a very - cooperative place.

[And he wouldn't be nearly as okay with getting dragged here for who knows what reason if it weren't.]

That sounds, perfect... And certainly encourages me to find more new friends, plants or not!

[She's turned to look down at that bud on the ground.]

What do you say? Shall we find more "Pokémon" to join you?

[...why's the answering "dew" so uncertain, hmm?]

[Ken smiles, mostly now to encourage the Budew.]

Ah...they might find you. You never know.

But it's exciting to see what will happen next.

Yes, and there's no telling what that might be...

I almost don't want to ask for much help, because it might ruin the surprise!

[Ken chuckles a little.]

It is surprising, isn't it? But in a positive way. There's always something new to see.

So I've seen! These roads, and the life growing here. The Pokémon I've spotted... I almost want to rush, just to see what the next town is like!

But, since I thought of it... We can rent rooms and space to live, can't we?

Can... we rent a space of land, as well?

[He's grinning along, having also appreciated that aspect of the adventure, until that question throws him for a loop.]

--I haven't tried. But if you spoke to the owner, maybe...

It'd be worth investigating.

Yes, I can't exactly farm without a place to plant what I find...

But, I'm getting ahead of myself! I need to find seeds first, and the money for rent and supplies!

[Ken nods.]

The first proper city's two towns over. Though, for planting, perhaps Cherrygrove's more suitable....

[He went through in the winter, so he can't be certain.]

Cherrygrove... Is that the first town I'll find on this road? Thank you, I'll have to take a look around! Perhaps I can compare it to the places I'll travel to afterwards, and come back if it suits best...

[Ken nods - that's a good plan.]
